Yesterday was Inauguration Day in DC and the boyfriend and I decided to join in on the historic day. We rode our bikes down to the mall which worked our great. Most of the roads were closed downtown so there were hardly any cars and no traffic. All in all it took us about 30 mins to arrive on the mall. We found a nice spot near the Monument where there was a jumbo screen set up. Since we were on the grass, we didn't even have to find a spot to lock up the bikes, we just kept them with us the whole time.
It was fun to be out there in the middle of all the action. We watched the swearing in and Obama's speech, and then we were cold so we headed home to warm up. We rode home and had no problems getting home either. My only complaint was the fact that the jumbo screen kept cutting in and out which was kind of annoying. Transportation-wise it couldn't have gone smoother though. And the crowds were MUCH more manageable than the last time.
Later that afternoon we saw the movie Zero Dark Thirty which I thought was good. I didn't realize it would be so focused on the process it took to find Bin Laden - I thought it was more about the actual raid on the compound - but it was very well done and very entertaining.
All in all it was a fun day and it was nice being able to be a part of history!
