Weekend Recap

This weekend went by in a blur. Saturday night the boyfriend and his soccer team got free tickets for the DC United game for winning their season in soccer. Since not everyone on the team wanted to go to the game, they had 2 extra tickets that he gave to my sister and I. We had a blast, ate some delicious food, and got to see DC United beat Real Salt Lake 4-1.

Earlier in the day the boyfriend and I watched Arsenal beat Bolton and they are finally starting to look like their old selves again. Sunday the boyfriend and I both had soccer, and then did a lot of resting and football watching afterwards.

Updates

Yesterday my mom, the boyfriend, and I all registered for the National Half Marathon on March 17, 2012
Thus the training has begun. I'm at 2 miles right now....only 11 more to go, in 6 months. Although my mom and I aren't training together, we've been doing a good job so far keeping each other motivated. The boyfriend is already in good shape from all his soccer and bike riding, so he doesn't need any motivation yet.

It's raining out today and it feels like it's been raining for most of September. I wish it would stop but this weekend's forecast is showing more rain. Speaking of this weekend, it should be full of fun stuff - bike riding, DC United game with my sister and the boyfriend, watching Arsenal play, and soccer games on Sunday.

This last month or so I've been really stressing myself out and I've been trying hard lately not to stress out, especially over things I can't control. It's been working out really well and I feel like I'm in a much better place.

Today is the 1st day of Fall and that is very exciting. I love fall here in DC because it's an actual season. In my hometown in Ohio, fall would last approximately 2 weeks, in which the leaves wouldn't have even fallen on the ground before the snow started. Fall in DC is so much more pleasant weather wise, and the leaves are so beautiful when they change colors. Can't wait!

Almost Friday

This week has been super busy at work but that means it's been making the days fly by. How is it already Thursday? This week has also been full of working out since when my mom was here she talked me into running a Half Marathon with her. I'm not quite sure what I was thinking when I said yes, but so beginth the training!

Tuesday I played pickup on the mall which was really fun. I was playing really well and the weather was just perfect out (see picture). Wednesday night my co-worker and I hit up our work gym - she ran and I did the bike for 30 minutes. Then my wonderful sister came over and brought dinner for us to eat and hang out. Tonight I'm taking a day off because it's Foreign Film Night with some of my co-workers. Tomorrow I'm hoping to hit up the gym again and then hopefully biking Saturday if it's not raining, and then soccer game on Sunday like usual.

The only question now is what race to run. I'm thinking the National Half Marathon is a good choice, it's in late March so it won't be too hot out. It's in DC so I won't have to travel (just my mom). Only problem is my mom wants a flat course which this course isn't. Maybe I can talk her into it.

I've been going a bit Groupon crazy this month - I got the deal for Whole Foods (which I used the next day) for $10 for $20, the US Weekly year subscription for $30, and I used my Pete's Apizza deal this week for lunch on the day that it expired. Nothings worse than buying a Groupon and not using it.

Today's Jersey Day at work (every Thursday during football season is Jersey Day) and I'm sporting my DC United jersey. People keep asking me if I'm going to the game tonight because I'm wearing the jersey. I respond back that I'm wearing a jersey cause it's Jersey Day and I think they think I'm nuts since I'm the only wearing a jersey today. Oh well.

Weekend Recap

Friday night the weather was beautiful and after a work happy hour, I met up with the boyfriend in NE for his friend's surprise birthday party. The party started early (7:15) which is my kind of party (why wait around until 10 to get things rolling) and the surprise part worked out great. The hostess was amazing and all in all it was a great time.

Saturday morning after a glorious sleep in, the boyfriend and I headed over to the annual Flower Mart at the National Cathedral. We shopped around at the vendors selling various items such as flowers, plants, antiques, trinkets, and so forth. We ate some ice cream, people watched, and then we saw signs for the Bell Tower Climb. Not really sure what we were signing up for, we embarked on the 333 step journey up a small windy staircase to the chamber where the bell-ringers gave us a demonstration on how the bells work. There were also some great views of the Cathedral (both inside and out) that you could see from the tour. It ended up being super fun and glad we were feeling spontaneous. After the festival, we changed into our DC United gear and headed off to tailgate for the game. I had received free DC United tickets for volunteering at the Cherry Blossom Soccer Tournament  so we got to go for free. Since I worked for the tickets, the boyfriend treated me to snacks during the game (isn't he the best) and although the game ended at a 0-0 tie, it was still a great time. After the game, we headed to a friends bbq, which luckily was nearby because I was so tired after all that.

Sunday was a pretty lazy and relaxing day for me. I skipped soccer (it was so early and the other side of town) and slept in. The boyfriend and I enjoyed the sunshine by walking around Georgetown, and then I came home and did laundry, painted my nails, and cleaned my room (sitll hadn't quite unpacked yet from London).

Below are some pics from the Flower Mart by the boyfriend - he got a new lens, a fisheye lens, so enjoy!

Weekend Recap

This weekend went by so fast and was jam-packed with fun activities. First up was the boyfriend running the Crystal City 5k after work on Friday. Me and our friend Erin went out in the pouring rain and cold temperatures to watch him run, and it paid off because he got his fastest 5k time. Way to go! (Pictures coming soon) After the race, we all went and had dinner to celebrate the boyfriend's awesomeness.

Saturday afternoon was ultra-relaxing. We lounged around, I made the boyfriend brunch, and when we finally left the house, we were on an adventure to go find a DC United jersey for the boyfriend (I of course already had one). Our original plan was to Zipcar out to the suburbs and hit up a sporting goods store, but every single Zipcar in the area was booked. Major fail. Our backup plan was to venture downtown to City Sports, where the boyfriend was able to find this awesome jersey:
Don't mind us, we're just being dorks - but looking good in our jerseys!
After the successful jersey adventure, we grabbed a quick lunch, did some other errands, and then were off to see DC United take on LA Galaxy. We even did the full fan experience by tailgating before the game with some soccer friends. We got discounted tickets, so our seats were great - in the middle, on the 1st level and only about maybe 30 rows back. The game was super exciting - the Galaxy scored a goal in the middle of the 1st half, and although United had a ton of chances, they couldn't get one in the goal. After halftime, Galaxy was playing very aggressively, and Beckham even tried to start a fight, but his teammates pulled him back. He did get a yellow card though. He was eventually taken out with about 15 minutes remaining, and all the DC United fans booed him. Anyways, with only a few minutes remaining in the game, United got a penalty in the box, meaning they would get to take a penalty kick. United's young prodigy Charlie Davies took it and he scored. The place went wild! It ended up with a final score of a 1-1 tie and was such a fun night!

DC United GOOOOOOAAAAAAL!
Sunday morning started off early, because the boyfriend had a soccer game early all the way on the other side of DC. I was tagging along to both cheer him on, and also to help watch 2 of his teammates kids while they played. Did I mention how exhausting watching a small child is! After the game, we headed over to my soccer game, and the boyfriend was just planning on cheering me on. Despite the 15 people who said "yes" to the evite for the game, there were only 7 people there when the game was about to start. The boyfriend had all his stuff with him from his game earlier, so he was a great sport and played with my team since we were down. A few people showed up late, so by halftime we had 12 total, which meant 1 sub. We were able to hold off the team to a 1-1 tie, although I think if we had had more people we could have beaten them.

Needless to say, after all that soccer, the boyfriend was exhausted, as was I, so we chilled at his place for a bit, but then had to leave again to go see my friend Jesica off who is leaving for Afghanistan today. By the time we got home, it was late, so we grabbed a quick bite to eat while watching the Arsenal game that we had DVRed from earlier that day. Then I proceeded to fall asleep watching the game.
