This Just In

The woman who played Old Rose in "Titanic", Gloria Stuart, died yesterday. She was 100 years old. When she was nominated for best supporting actress for her role in Titanic, she became the oldest person ever nominated for an acting Oscar (she lost to Kim Basinger). While I sick on the couch yesterday I actually watch Titanic as it was on TNT. Quite eerie.

Rainy Days and Mondays

Weekend Recap: Friday night me and the boyfriend ended up staying in and chilling. I believe the original idea was to Redbox it, but then for whatever reason we didn't, and ended up with us just watching TV.

Saturday started off early with the boyfriend waking up at 7am to go play flag football (I had good intentions the night before to go, but 7am came by way too early and didn't end up happening). Upon his return home, we met up with his co-worker who drove us to his company picnic at a park on the Potomac. The picnic was fun (despite the bees attacking me), the food was delicious, and the kids games were surprisingly very entertaining. That evening, we were supposed to meet-up on the Georgetown Waterfront with my friend Jesica who is leaving for a work trip to Afghanistan for a late dinner. The boyfriend had seen a jacket at H&M that he wanted to get earlier in the week, and since we had time to kill, we decided to head down to Georgetown early to check it out. We nextbused it to find that the next bus was coming in 1 minute so we took off running for the bus stop to catch it just in time. Right about this time is when things went down hill.

We arrived at H&M only to find that they didn't have the jacket there - on a separate note, that location is 3 stories and only 1/2 of 1 floor has men's clothing, poor guys, they get totally gypped. We hit up a few more shops before they started to close, and then boyfriend started to get really tried and not feel well. I suggested we go to Starbucks, since my mom had sent me a gift card earlier, and we got our drinks and people watched. Then we decided to walk around the waterfront for a bit, and while sitting there looking at the boats, boyfriend said he was feeling very ill. We had about 30 minutes until the dinner reservations, so I said just hold out until then, and then you can head home, to which he agreed. After about 15 minutes boyfriend said he couldn't make it any longer and had to go home then. After putting him in a cab, I sat by the waterfront alone and decided to call my mom to entertain me until other dinner guests arrived. Thank goodness for Jason (who is not habitually late like the rest of group) who showed up a bit early so we were able to catch up.

Dinner was fun - good friends and good food and nice to catch up with everyone. After dinner, there was much debate as to where to go out afterwards. After lots of standing around, I too started not feeling great and decided to head back to the boyfriend's to check up on him. After arriving there, I suddenly started not feeling well either, and was up until 3am sick.

We still have no idea what made us so sick. At first we both thought it was the food from the picnic, but after figuring out no one else was sick, the only other thing we could come up with was the Potomac River (we wandered down to the shore and touched the water and found a shell which we took with us). We both made it out to soccer games the next afternoon though, so it wasn't a total loss of a weekend.

On a completely unrelated note, have you tried a Reese's Stick yet? I had one today and they are quite addicting - takes like a Kit Kat with peanut butter added and less wafer.

Today is Monday which means another soccer game.

Thursday Tip

So I'm not good at math in my head (despite the fact that my job is in Finance), but I know enough to know this isn't right:

Weekend in Dallas

The boyfriend and I went to visit my mom out in Dallas last weekend. We had such a good time - toured the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, went outlet shopping, ran a 5k, walked White Rock Lake, played around on my mom's iPad, and just relaxed and hung out. Below are some pictures:

Vacation

I'm off to Dallas for a long weekend to visit the mother with the boyfriend. Pictures and updates to come upon my return!

Oh My...

Introducing Winkers Decorated Pants($169-579). Here's how it works: you send in a pair of your old jeans to Winkers, and for between an arm and a leg, they'll decorate the backside with eyeballs and other assorted things to make the junk in...your trunk appear to "wink" at all the boys in your yard when you walk by:

Metro Song

Apparently I'm not the only one who has tips on how to ride the metro (by the same guy who brought us the Arlington Rap):

Thursday Tip

Make sure you have a collar for your cats (with proper identification in case the cat gets lost). Fewer than 2% of lost cats ever make it back to their owners from a shelter, while 15-19% of dogs do - why? Because more dogs are collared and registered than cats. So, God forbid anything should happen to your precious kitty, make sure they can be returned back to you.

Thursday Tip

Top 10 most annoying people who ride the DC metro:

1. Lazy people who take the elevator instead of the escalator. Bikes are not allowed on the escalators - this means I have to take the escalator, and you simple are too lazy to stand on the escalator.

2. Oblivious tourists who don't follow the very simple concept of 'stand on the right, walk on the left'.

3. People who rush to get on the train as soon as the doors open, despite the mass of people trying to exit the train. It works better for everyone if you simply wait for people to get off before you try to get on. Also, it's pretty arrogant to think that you are more important than everyone else trying to get on or off the train that you have to go first.

4. People who stand in front of an empty seat on the metro or bus. If you don't want to sit in, that's fine, but please don't block the view of it for others who want to sit and don't know that it's there. Also, if you sit, you are more out of the way - and can always pop up if an elderly or pregnant person boards.

5. Tourists who get off the escalator and then stand at the bottom of the steps and do not move. I don't think I need to explain why this is so annoying and unsafe.

6. People who take up 2 seats for no reason. Sadly, the most common seathog culprits I see are actually local commuters and not tourists. Your bag does not need it's own seat - enough said.

7. People who lean up against a pole, especially when you were already holding on to it. I do not want to have to touch your back just to be able to hold on to a pole (especially since I am short and can't reach the ceiling railings so the poles are my only option). If you simply hold on to the pole with your hand, that leaves more space for everyone else to hold on to it.

8. People who enter the metro or bus doors and then stand right in the doorway. This is fine if you are the last person to enter, but usually there are lots of people behind you. If you stop in the doorway, there is nowhere for these people to go.

9. Early-risers - those who have you move out of their way so they can go stand in front of the door way before you get to their stop. I'm all for giving yourself plenty of time to get off the train, but the second we leave the stop before yours is too early. Plus, it makes it easier to have everyone move out of your way when the metro or bus has come to a stop.

10. When you are on the metro (especially during rush hour) and it's dead silent. Someone's cell phone rings on the loudest ring possible and said person answers their phone by SCREAMING into it "I'm on the metro, I can't hear you!...WHAAAT!....I'm on the metro!" Same phone rings again "I'M ON THE METRO". Just wait until you get off the train please, or try a text. It's a lot quieter.

Now you know what not to do on public transportation.

Fall is Here?!?!?

So Labor Day weekend marks the end of summer, so I guess that means fall is here. I guess it getting dark earlier should have been a sign, but the 90 degree weather has me thrown off. Can't believe the summer is over already. But I am excited to mix up my wardrobe with some fall things, especially boots!

Word on the Street

So word on the street is that Teresa from Real Housewives of New Jersey and her husband Joe might be headed to jail for failing to disclose all of their assets when they filed for divorce.

Speaking of the Real Housewives, I watched the Reunion Part 2 episode the other night and didn't really know how I felt about it. It seemed to be the entire season wrapped up in 1 show - Danielle getting caught in her lies and making excuses for them, Caroline being sane, and Teresa being dumb and hostile. I'm glad to hear that Danielle is officially off the show (Andy Cohen said it was because he thought the storyline had gone as far as he thought it could go with her) and can't wait for Atlanta to start soon!

Long Weekend!

Hoooooray for the long weekend - so excited, but mostly because I don't have many plans which means lots of much-needed relaxation. Only plans so far are to use my LivingSocial deal to go to the Crime & Punishment Museum, and for a my friend's 2nd Annual Redneck BBQ (I just need to figure out my outfit and what to bring - so mad I already used my box of wine at another bbq). Hope you also have a nice long weekend!
