Weekend Update: Eating and Shopping

This past weekend was such a blur, it sped by so fast. Friday after work I headed to our friend Ros's for a small party. We ate some appetizers and just chilled and chatted. The boyfriend came later, as he was driving back from his work trip. I was asked to bring a dessert, so I picked up some delicious gourmet donuts from this shop called Astro Doughnuts that sells donuts and fried chicken.

The flavors were creme brule (2), s'mores, mocha, peanut butter & jelly, and coconut. They were all insanely delicious.

Saturday morning the boyfriend still had his rental car so we drove out to the Outlets where I bought lots of new stuff! Once we got back from the outlets the boyfriend took the car back to the airport while I took a nap (shopping is tiring). Isn't he the best :)

Sunday we met up with Ros to play tennis, then had brunch, then I took a nap (noticing a theme here) and then I had my soccer game that evening. We beat the 1st place team which was exciting. After soccer I was exhausted and feel asleep very early.

All in all it was very fun but I also could have used another day to recuperate before work this week. Oh well, back to work it is.

On tap for this week is dinner with my old roommate on Monday, soccer on the mall on Tuesday, Leadership Conference Wednesday morning, Crossfit on Thursday and Friday, and then soccer on Saturday, ending with tennis and soccer (and a visit from my Dad??) on Sunday. I guess I will have to rest next week!

New Do

As I mentioned in my previous post, I got my haircut. I was so tired of my long hair - it took forever to style and was just lifeless. The last time I cut my hair I was in Dallas for Christmas, so it had been 7 months and a cut was much needed.

This was my hair pre-cut:

This was my inspiration photo:
For the record, I have no idea who this person is, I found this photo on Pinterest. (Update: my sister informed me that is model Karlie Kloss)

I tried out a new place called Ozuki Salon and loved it there. My stylist asked me all sorts of questions about my routine and products that I used. I told her I wanted something low maintenance and after she cut it to the right length told me I shouldn't do the bangs in the photo because then I would have to style them daily, so we decided to do without them.

This is the outcome:
I have yet to blow it dry so I'm not sure how it will look after I style it, but I've just been air drying it, putting in a bit of curl scrunching gel, and heading out - definitely low maintenance and I think it's been looking great. I feel so much lighter and like that my hair has life in it again (it was so weighed down before).

My Day Off

It's Monday again and I feel awful from allergies. It's summertime - why am I having terrible allergies! But enough about my ailments, lots to recap:

I had scheduled a bunch of appointments on Thursday so I took the day off. In the morning the boyfriend had to head out to town for work. He had rented a car for the trip, and dropped me off at an early morning dentist appointment on his way out of town. I don't like going to the dentist because they always tell me all the things I'm doing wrong with my teeth. They informed me I have a teeny tiny cavity on my very back tooth, so I have to go back in 2 weeks for a filling - just lovely. Then I headed to Northside Social for a delicious brunch.

After brunch, I headed to Georgetown for  a haircut appointment (more to come), and then to Ballston for my womanly yearly appointment where my doctor kept telling how I was taking excellent care of my body and was so healthy (the exact opposite of the dentist). Then I did some shopping at the consignment store (my favorite place!) and then went to my massage appointment. I had gone to crossfit the day before so I was very sore and the masseuse worked out every single one of my knots.

After walking around all day I was exhausted by the end of the day. Not exactly a relaxing day off, but much needed.

Weekend Update: Heat Wave

I haven't posted in awhile so there's lots to catch up on. DC has been in the midst of a heat wave meaning all I have been doing is sweating.

Two weekends ago was my old roommate Ashleigh's birthday bash. All of the old roommates attended which was so much fun seeing all of them together.

The next day we headed down to Old Town to celebrate my sisters belated 30th birthday (her actual birthday was when I was in Pittsburgh). We walked around the waterfront, got ice cream, and watched a street magicians' show. Then we headed to their house to cool off, play with their cat Hunter, and I gave my sister her birthday gift (from all of the sisters) which she loved!

Last week and the week prior, I started going to crossfit in the mornings. Although I hate having to lug around my clothes and toiletries, and not being able to get ready at home, I was having a hard time leaving work on time to make it to the evening classes. Going 1st thing in the morning means I have no excuse not to go (except for an early morning meeting like today). I wake up at 6, leave at 6:30, have class from 7-8, then shower and walk to work and get in around 8:45/9. This is much different than my regular mornings where I get up at 7:30, leave at 8:30, and get in at 9. It's been an adjustment but is going ok so far.

Last Friday the boyfriend and I helped Jesica pick out new running shoes and then we grabbed burgers after which was really fun. Saturday morning the boyfriend and I played pick up, then showered and rested, and then played tennis in the late afternoon with my friend Chris. After tennis we went to Guapo's for some delicious Mexican food. It was a fun but tiring (and sweaty) day.

Sunday morning I met up with my friend Jessica at the Corcoran Museum of Art. We has brunch first, which was a vegan all you can eat buffet and soooo delicious. After brunch we walked around the museum and saw all of the art. I didn't take many pictures, I meant to take a lot but got distracted by all of the wonderful artwork.

After walking around the museum I was quite tired so I headed to the boyfriends to watch the US Men's soccer game and then headed off to my own soccer game. We won our game 2-0 and I scored the 2nd goal! It was my first real goal (as in, at an actual game, not just at pick up). I was so excited and the boyfriend took me to 2 Amy's for pizza afterwards to celebrate. It was a great end to a great weekend!

Weekend Update

This past week and weekend was so busy and so fun. Wednesday we got out of work early (I love half days) and I played tennis after work. Thursday, the 4th, I had the day off so the boyfriend and I cleaned up his apartment for his weekend guest, and then we played tennis with our friend Ros. After tennis we barbecued at Ros's which was really fun and low-key. After Ros's we quickly showered and got dressed and rushed over to Jesica's for a rooftop fireworks party which was really fun.

Friday was a weird day - hardly anyone was at the office and it was my boss's last day at work which was very bittersweet.

Late Friday night the boyfriend's sister came to visit from St. Louis. Saturday we went to brunch in Eastern Market and shopped there as well. Then we headed to the Building Museum where they are having a mini golf exhibit. Each hole was designed by a different local architecture firm. This was so much fun and great for all ages, but is only here until Labor Day.

After mini golf we jetted down to the National Harbor to see The Awakening statue.

After that we headed to dinner at our favorite go-to spot Cactus Cantina for dinner and margaritas and capped off the night with a stroll to the National Cathedral.

Needless to say we were all exhausted after a jam packed day. Sunday we shopped and ate in Georgetown before she had to leave us. Hopefully she'll come back again soon!

Four Years

Today is the boyfriend's and I four year anniversary. Four Years! How crazy is that! We are going to dinner to tonight to celebrate and I thought those were all of the plans but then he surprised me by sending me flowers at work.

I was even more surprised since he bought me "just because" flowers over the weekend. How sweet - absolutely beautiful too! He's a keeper!
